Transferring/ Name Changing

The Package Travel Regulations outline an individuals right to transfer their booking to another person where a change in personal circumstances prevents them from travelling. As a result, most Tour Operators will allow you to change the passenger names on a booking at least up to 14 days before the departure date.

Some well known Tour operators permit name changes right up to within 3 days of departure. It's interesting to see the costs and conditions imposed by different Tour Operators as they can vary greatly.

As can the fee charged to change each passengers name. Thomson are about the highest we've looked at, up to £50 per person whereas First Choice and MyTravel only charge a maximum of £30 per passenger to do the exact same thing. (Following their merger with Thomson, First Choice's fees are set to match Thomson's higher ones from 1st May 09)

You can check specific cancellation and name change fees for each Tour Operator by clicking on the Tour Operator you want to look at.

Cancelling

To cancel a booking made with a Tour operator, you will usually lose at least your deposit. If you cancel within 56 days (8 weeks) of your departure date the cancellation fee normally increases on a grading scale. The closer it gets to departure, the more you will lose if you cancel.
