Do you have travel insurance for your flight or holiday? Will they pay out if you cancel the booking?
If you have paid for insurance and it has cancellation cover, read the policy or contact them to check if you would be covered. If you've not yet bought insurance or you think finding people who are looking for a flight or holiday like yours to go instead of you, start by checking if your supplier allows name changes. Check the conditions for both the tour operator or airline AND the travel agent, if you used one. More agents are charging their own admin fees on top of the airline or tour operators'.

Does your supplier give you the option to change the names on your flight or holiday?
Check the booking conditions of your tour operator or airline with to find out if you can change the passenger names on your booking. If so, you should advertise the details here. Note down when the latest date you could change the names is so you'll know how long you can place your listing.

If you cancelled your flight or holiday, how much money would you get back?
Many airlines charge a 100% cancellation fee if you cancel, so if you're booked with one of them you're not going to get any money back. Tour operators and other suppliers' cancellation fees will increase the closer you get to the departure date. The cancellation fee can vary between loss of deposit, a percentage fee of between 50 and 100% of the booking cost.

How much will it cost to change the passenger names on your booking?
Again, check your tour operators or suppliers booking conditions to see what fee will be charged. Sometimes they may state the fee amounts in the FAQ's section of their websites instead of in the booking conditions. Often tour operators will charge a fee per person of between £25 and £50. Airlines however will usually charge a fee per person, per flight of between £15 and £45. Some will also want you to pay any difference between the price paid for the flight and it's current sale price. So if you bought it for £120 and it's now selling for £150, you will have to pay an additional £30.

If you didn't book direct with the airline or tour operator, will the booking agent charge any extra fees? If so, how much?
Some travel agents and on-line booking agents will charge their own fee for you to change the names on your booking. In addition to the fees charges by the actual provider. Many don't charge anything extra but because some do, you should double check with them to avoid any surprises if you find someone else to travel.

How much is your flight or holiday selling for now?
Check on-line or with your supplier to find out how much your flight or holiday is currently  selling for. You would have to offer your booking to someone else for less than what it would cost them to book themselves direct. The bigger the discount you can offer, the better the chances of transferring your booking to someone else.
